The Hong Kong Observatory has issued an amber rainstorm warning, with heavy rains falling across the city.
The warning, issued at 10am on Monday, means that heavy and persistent rain exceeding 30mm (1.2 inches) an hour is expected to fall over Hong Kong. “An area of intense thundery showers is affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta.
Meanwhile, a southerly airstream is affecting the coast of Guangdong,” the forecaster said. “The trough of low pressure over the northern part of southern China is expected to edge closer to the coastal areas gradually.” The Observatory urged the public to stay away from major watercourses as heavy rain may bring about flash floods. “There will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas.
People who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risks posed by the heavy rain and flooding,” the weather forecaster said.
