Photo: Handout Two people have been injured in an explosion at a recycling yard in northern Hong Kong, with online footage showing towering flames and billowing black smoke following the blast.
Police said they received a report at 11.02am on Thursday that an explosion had been heard at a site, said to be a recycling yard, at the intersection of Ting Kok Road and Fung Yuen Road in Tai Po. “The person heard an explosion and saw flames,” a force spokesman said.
Multiple reports regarding the same location were received, he added.
Officers sent to the scene found two people injured, including a man in his fifties who had suffered second-degree burns.

Both of the injured were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.
Online footage shows orange flames rising above trees near village houses, with thick black smoke billowing up into the sky.
Another clip shows black smoke engulfing the site and spreading upwards.
The spokesman said firefighters were still on site putting out the blaze.
The Fire Services Department dispatched two water jets and two teams with breathing apparatus, with operations ongoing as of 12.12pm, a government spokesman said.
