The woman was arrested on Saturday from a flat at Kam Fung House in Wong Tai Sin after her son called the police at 2.48pm and complained he had been beaten. A source on Sunday said the woman, surnamed Guo and holding a Hong Kong identity card, beat the child on his left shoulder and thigh with a rattan cane because she was unhappy with his attitude. The boy had bruises on his chin and swellings on his left shoulder, upper arm and thigh. He was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment. High-profile cases in recent years have prompted the authorities to enact the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance, which came into effect on January 20 this year.
