State police chief Deputy Commissioner Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said a report on the incident was lodged by the victim’s mother at 1.17am on Monday. He said preliminary investigations showed that the 20-year-old victim was attacked by her husband in front of a family karaoke centre in Kota Shahbandar at about 4am on Sunday. “Checks on closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings revealed that the suspect acted aggressively by punching, slapping and pulling the victim’s hair before ramming her head with a motorcycle,” he said on Tuesday. “As a result, the victim sustained soft-tissue injuries to her head and right cheek and was taken by ambulance to Hospital Melaka at 4.41am for treatment,” he added. Dzulkhairi said that after receiving treatment, the victim was taken home by her mother to Tanjung Minyak Perdana, after which the latter lodged a police report in an effort to protect her daughter. However, he said that at about 9am on Monday, the victim’s mother discovered that the back door of her house had been opened and that her daughter had allegedly left the house with her two-year-old grandson. “The victim’s mother has been unable to contact her daughter since then,” he said. “Efforts to trace the suspect, who works as a delivery man in Telok Mas, as well as his wife and their child, are ongoing,” he said. Dzulkhairi added that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. Earlier, a 56-second video showing the suspect violently assaulting his wife had been widely circulated in Melaka. This story was first published by
